Inquiry launched into Islamabad police officer’s death; phone remains locked
A three-member inquiry committee has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Islamabad’s Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adeel Akbar, whose mobile phone remains locked while the incident is yet to be entered in the police crime diary.
According to sources, a three-member inquiry committee has been formed under the supervision of DIG Headquarters Haroon Joya, with DIG Operations Jawad Tariq and DIG Law and Order Atiq Tahir serving as members.
The committee is continuing its probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
Investigators have also recorded separate statements of ASP Akbar’s wireless operator and driver, who were with him shortly before the incident.
Sources disclosed that the deceased officer had consulted a psychiatrist twice in recent days and had been suffering from both dengue fever and COVID-19 in the days leading up to his death.
They further revealed that ASP Akbar’s leave request had not been approved, adding to his reported mental stress.
Notably, the Islamabad Police crime diary shows no mention of the incident, and official entries from both Aabpara and Secretariat police stations for that day describe the situation as “completely peaceful.”
The inquiry committee continues to investigate the incident from multiple angles, including the officer’s health, professional pressures, and possible personal reasons leading to his tragic death.
