Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), is on an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt aimed at deepening military cooperation and defence collaboration between the two brotherly nations, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to the military’s media wing, the army chief held meetings with Egyptian Minister of Defence and Defence Production, General Abdul Maged Saqar, and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi.

Discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security, and expanding bilateral defence cooperation.

Field Marshal Munir emphasised that Egypt is a brotherly Islamic country, and strengthened military ties would not only serve both nations but also help promote peace and stability across the region.

Upon his arrival at the Ministry of Defence, the Pakistani army chief was presented with a Guard of Honour.

He also laid floral wreaths at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and at the grave of former Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat in Cairo.

Field Marshal Munir also called on His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.

During the meeting, the grand Imam shared his views on challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah. COAS highlighted the need to eradicate extremist ideologies and contorted interpretations of Islam.
