Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced that the bulletproof vehicles earlier allocated to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will now be sent to Balochistan to strengthen counterterrorism efforts in the province.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Naqvi said the vehicles designated for KP were being redirected to Balochistan.

He praised the sacrifices of the province’s security forces and police in the fight against terrorism, adding that the provision of bulletproof vehicles would further enhance their performance.

Naqvi’s statement came in response to a tweet by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who noted that, like KP, Balochistan had also been severely affected by terrorism and required additional protective equipment to conduct effective operations.

Bugti said the safety of citizens remained the provincial government’s top priority, and security measures were being strengthened accordingly.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had handed over three bulletproof vehicles to the KP police.

However, newly elected KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi refused to accept them, directing the police to return the vehicles to the federal government.

Afridi claimed the vehicles were substandard and said the provincial government would procure new vehicles and provide additional resources for the police from its own resources.

However, official sources maintained that while the vehicles were not new, they were fully capable of security operations.
