On day three of the Rawalpindi Test on Wednesday, South African tailenders delivered an outstanding show with a 71 and 98-run partnership for the 9th and 10th wickets, respectively, before getting bowled out on 404 runs.

South Africa managed a 71-run lead against the hosts, strengthening their position in the second and conclusive match of the two-match test series.

Pakistan will begin their second innings after tea, appended with a trail of 71 runs.

South Africa continued their innings from where they had left off at the end of Day two – from 185/4.

Senuran Muthusamy scored 89 runs for South Africa, while the number 10 batter, Kagiso Rabada, smashed 71 runs, hammering four lofty sixes.

On day two, Tristan Stubbs had also added 76 to the team’s total, allied by a 56-run knock by Toni de Zorzi.

Pakistan’s 38-year-old spinner, Asif Afridi, who made his test debut in Rawalpindi, seized six wickets in his maiden test match. He was abetted by Noman Ali, who also grabbed two wickets.

In the first innings, Pakistan made 333 runs, with captain Shan Masood hitting 87 runs, and fifties by Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique.

Keshav Maharaj, who missed the first test match of the series at Lahore, had grabbed seven wickets for South Africa.
