South Africa reach 185-4 in reply to Pakistan’s 333 in Rawalpindi Test
South Africa reached 185 for 4 in their first innings at the close of play on the third day in the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
South Africa are still trailing Pakistan by 148 runs after the hosts were bowled out for 333 earlier in the day.
Earlier, Pakistan resumed their innings on 259 for 5 and managed to add another 74 runs before being dismissed.
Saud Shakeel, who was unbeaten on 42 overnight, scored a solid 66, while Agha Salman contributed 45 runs.
Among the lower order, Shaheen Afridi fell for a duck, Sajid Khan made 5, and Asif Afridi was out for 4.
For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers who claimed seven wickets in an impressive display of spin bowling, while Simon Harmer picked up two.
In reply, South Africa lost early wickets with Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram both dismissed at 54.
Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi then steadied the innings with a 113-run stand for the third wicket.
De Zorzi was dismissed for 55, becoming Asif Afridi’s first Test wicket, while Dewald Brevis was out for a duck.
Stubbs remained unbeaten on 68 at stumps as South Africa ended the day on 185 for 4.
Pakistan defeated South Africa by 93 runs in the opening Test to start their ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 campaign on a winning note.
