Nawaz says Pakistan is our red line, vows no compromise on security
Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is our red line and no one will be allowed to cast an evil eye on it.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence on Sunday, sources said.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also present at the meeting.
According to party sources, both leaders discussed the overall political situation in the country.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed Nawaz Sharif on the recent talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the country.
Nawaz Sharif said no one would be allowed to threaten Pakistan’s sovereignty and that every possible sacrifice would be made for the defence of the motherland.
“Pakistan is our red line. The sons of the nation are safeguarding the homeland without caring for their lives,” he stated.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the complete eradication of terrorism was the key to lasting peace and that protecting the lives and property of citizens remained the government’s top priority.
Interior minister briefs PM on security situation
Separately, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore and briefed him on the country’s law and order situation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The prime minister was also updated on ongoing development projects in Islamabad.
Sunday’s meeting between the prime minister and the interior minister came a week after their discussion prior to a police operation to end Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) protest camp in Muridke.
