Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday paid tribute to the martyrs of the 2007 Karsaz blasts, calling it the deadliest act of terrorism in the country’s history and a conspiracy against the federation.

Two suicide bombers blew themselves up to target Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto at Karsaz. Around 200 people were killed and more than 500 others wounded when two blasts in quick succession ripped through the procession on October 18, 2007.

Speaking to the media after visiting the Karsaz martyrs memorial, Bilawal said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan with hope and courage, raising her voice for democracy despite grave threats.

“Benazir Bhutto was the voice of the people. She embraced martyrdom while confronting terrorists and never wavered in her struggle,” he said.

Bilawal added that the PPP continues to carry forward Benazir’s mission, vowing that the party remains committed to her vision of democracy and national unity.

“Our workers were martyred, but Mohtarma did not lose courage. She continued her struggle for the people and for Pakistan,” he remarked.

Accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, Nisar Khuhro, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and other party leaders, Bilawal laid floral wreaths and offered prayers for the victims of the attack.

The PPP chairman said that the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting would be held later today to discuss the country’s current political situation.

“I will brief the leadership on my recent conversation with the Prime Minister,” he said.

Bilawal reiterated the PPP’s demand for development work in Karachi, emphasising that “any progress in the city must be carried out in accordance with the Constitution and under the framework of the 18th Amendment.”

He concluded by saying that the party’s struggle for democracy, justice, and the rights of the people continues in the spirit of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
