Tremors were felt in Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, causing panic among residents but with no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

According to the Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale at a depth of 120 kilometres, with its epicentre located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.

The quake was felt in Swat, Lower Dir, Chitral, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Torghar, as well as in the federal capital, Islamabad.

Tremors lasted several seconds, prompting residents in some areas to rush out of homes and offices.

Authorities said they were monitoring the situation, but no major losses had been reported so far.
