15 killed as truck overturns on Swat Expressway in Malakand
A tragic road accident occurred near the Zulumkot Tunnel on the Swat Expressway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand district, claiming the lives of at least 15 people and leaving 8 others seriously injured.
According to initial reports, the incident took place when a truck carrying nomadic families migrating from Swat to Faisalabad lost control due to brake failure and overspeeding, plunging into a deep ravine.
Rescue and levee teams rushed to the scene immediately after the crash. The injured were taken to Category-A DHQ Hospital in Batkhela, where they are currently receiving emergency medical care.
Authorities confirmed that 15 people died on the spot, including four women and five children, while several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
All victims reportedly belonged to the Bahrain area of Swat.
Rescue teams carried out intensive operations to retrieve the injured and recover the bodies, which have been handed over to the families after necessary formalities.
The local administration has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest the truck driver.
Officials have urged the public and transporters to ensure vehicle maintenance and strictly follow traffic safety rules to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
