Sohail Afridi sworn in as KP Chief Minister
Sohail Afridi took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath following directives from the Peshawar High Court.
The PHC Chief Justice, S.M. Attique Shah, had earlier ordered that the governor swear in the newly elected chief minister by 4pm on Wednesday.
The court also directed that if the governor failed to do so, the KP Assembly Speaker would administer the oath the same day.
Sources said that the PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, had instructed Governor Kundi in Karachi to proceed to Peshawar and comply with the court’s directive.
According to PTI sources, the party’s founder has given Afridi full authority to select his cabinet, which will be formed from elected representatives or ticket holders.
Two days earlier, Sohail Afridi was elected as KP’s new chief minister, while opposition parties staged a walkout from the assembly.
The election took place under the chairmanship of KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, where Afridi secured 90 votes from the provincial assembly members.
