Lahore Test: Shaheen, Noman outclass South Africa as Pakistan secure victory
On day four of the test match at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Pakistan beat South Africa by 93 runs as Shaheen Shah Afridi and Noman Ali pulled out the South African batting line-up in the second innings.
Pakistan has now taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match test series against the visitors.
Chasing the target of 277 runs, South Africa were all out on 183 runs. Shaheeh Shah Afridi and Noman Ali grabbed four wickets apiece, making the South African batters to cripple. Dewald Brevis hit 54 runs, while no other batter could manage to survive against Pakistan’s bowling attack.
The test match began on October 12, when Pakistan’s skipper, Shan Masood, won the toss and elected to bat first.
In their first innings, Pakistan scored 378 runs before getting all out on day two. Imam-ul-Haq and Agha Salman were left short of just seven runs from their tons, as they both lost their wickets 93 runs each.
Captain Shan Masood scored 76 runs, while wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan also added 75 runs, part of the long-standing partnership with Agha Salman.
Left-arm South African spinner Senuran Muthusamy grabbed six wickets.
South Africa, in their first innings, could only manage to put 269 runs on board, which included a ton by Tony de Zorzi and 71 runs by Ryan Rickelton.
Pakistan’s spinners dominated the field as Noman Ali and Sajid Khan took six and three wickets respectively.
Pakistan kicked off their second innings on day three of the test match with a lead of 109 runs, but were all out on just 167 runs, posting a 277-run target for South Africa. Babar Azam made 42 runs, while Senuran Muthusamy grabbed five wickets, his 11th in the first test match. Simon Harmer also got four wickets.
Both countries will play their second test match of the series on October 20 at Rawalpindi.
