NEPRA approves 8-paisa per unit electricity hike across Pakistan
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday issued a notification increasing electricity rates by 8 paisa per unit for the entire country, including Karachi, under the monthly fuel adjustment for August.
According to the notification, the price hike will also apply to K-Electric consumers in line with government policy guidelines.
The additional charges will be reflected in consumers’ October electricity bills.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a 19-paisa per unit increase in the August adjustment.
NEPRA conducted a public hearing at its headquarters, chaired by the NEPRA chairman, to review the adjustment request.
Representatives from CPPA, the business community, the Ministry of Energy, journalists, and members of the public participated in the hearing.
The decision follows NEPRA’s earlier announcement on September 29, when it reserved its verdict on the request for a further electricity tariff hike.
