Opposition to move court over ‘unlawful’ KP CM’s election
Opposition leader in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Dr Ibadullah, has announced that the opposition will challenge the election of the new chief minister in court on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Dr Ibadullah said the opposition was under the impression that the resignation of former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur had been accepted, which is why opposition candidates had submitted their nomination papers.
“The election of the new chief minister is unconstitutional,” he said. “Their lawyers are saying it’s legal, but we believe it’s wrong.”
Talking to reporters after boycotting the assembly session, he questioned, “How can a new chief minister be elected when one is already in office?”
He added, “Their lawyer claims everything is fine, but we say it’s not. We believed that such senior people would not lie. When the time comes, the joint opposition will stand united. Tomorrow, we will challenge this in court.”
