Tremors shake Swat’s Mingora and adjoining areas
Tremors jolted Swat’s Mingora city and adjoining areas on Sunday, with a magnitude of 4.1 recorded on the Richter scale.
According to reports, the earthquake was felt in Mingora and its surrounding localities, triggering panic among residents.
People rushed out of homes and buildings during the tremors, reciting verses from the holy Quran aloud.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said the quake had a depth of 218 kilometres and its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region.
Experts noted that the Hindu Kush mountain range is a seismically active zone where tremors are frequently recorded.
Officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage, but relevant departments and the district administration were monitoring the situation closely.
Earlier, on October 5, an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 struck Quetta and its adjoining areas in Balochistan, with its epicentre located 65 kilometres west of the provincial capital at a depth of 25 kilometres.
Similarly, on September 23, tremors measuring 5.0 in magnitude were felt in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Landi Kotal, Khyber, Malakand, and Batkhela, with a depth of 20 kilometres and the epicentre located in southern Afghanistan.
