The Sindh government has imposed a province-wide ban on protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, and rallies for one month under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The order will come into effect from October 12 (today).

According to a notification issued on Sunday, the ban prohibits the gathering of more than five people in any public place across Sindh. The order, which takes immediate effect, has been implemented in all districts of the province.

The Sindh Home Department said the decision was made in view of the prevailing security situation and on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police. The government stated that “immediate preventive measures were necessary to maintain public order and ensure peace.”

Under the order, Station House Officers (SHOs) of the concerned police stations have been authorised to register cases against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Officials said the restrictions are aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring the safety of citizens. The notification added that the measure is temporary and will remain in force for one month unless withdrawn earlier by the government.
