Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Saturday said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has received the resignation of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, paving the way for the election of a new chief minister on Monday.

Addressing a press conference at the KP Assembly alongside Advocate General Shah Faisal and Law Minister Aftab Alam, Salman Akram Raja said the Governor House has officially acknowledged receipt of Gandapur’s handwritten resignation.

He clarified that under Article 130 of the Constitution, once a chief minister resigns, “the governor has no discretion in the matter.”

He added, “When a chief minister resigns from a constitutional office, the resignation takes immediate effect.”

Raja announced that the KP Assembly will elect a new chief minister on Monday, naming Sohail Afridi as PTI’s nominee for the post.

He further stated that the new provincial cabinet will be formed in line with the directives of the party founder, adding that it will include both experienced and new faces.

Calling Sohail Afridi “a determined and energetic young leader,” Raja expressed confidence that his leadership would “bring renewed vigour and inclusivity to the province.”
