Sindh Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that 500 electric buses will be introduced in Karachi and Hyderabad in phases under the people’s green transport project.

The citizens will get comfortable and low-cost travel facilities under this flagship project, which will help reduce air pollution, the minister added.

The project will also include modern bus depots, charging stations, automatic fare collection and a smart monitoring system.

Sharjeel Memon said that the Karachi Port to Qayyumabad elevated expressway project has been approved, which will provide a dedicated route for heavy vehicles from the port.

This 16.5km-long freight expressway will connect the port to the Senator Taj Haider interchange, which will reduce traffic congestion and improve the port’s efficiency, he added.

The minister said that a plan to develop forests on 41,000 hectares in Jamshoro and Matiari is a big step towards environmental protection and the reduction of carbon emissions.

The Sindh government is also promoting private partnerships in the agriculture and food-processing sectors, he added.
