ECP declares PTI, Sunni Ittehad Council MPs as independents

New party positions issued for National and provincial assemblies after Supreme Court ruling

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued updated party positions for the National and provincial assemblies, declaring all members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) as independents.

According to an official notification issued on Thursday, the ECP said all PTI-backed members would now be treated as independent lawmakers.

The move comes in light of the Supreme Court’s August 25, 2025, decision, following which the commission formally de-notified the SIC’s collective representation in the assemblies.

As per the revised composition, all members previously affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council in the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh have now been declared independents.

Officials said the decision marks a major shift in the parliamentary landscape, as the updated lists no longer reflect the members’ association with PTI or the SIC.
