PML-N, PPP agree to halt war of words after key meeting with President Zardari
A high-level government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met President Asif Ali Zardari at Zardari House in Nawabshah on Wednesday.
According to sources, the meeting marked a significant step toward reducing friction between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Both sides agreed to halt the ongoing exchange of statements and work together to strengthen coalition harmony.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed President Zardari about his recent discussion with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It was agreed that the Prime Minister would take party supremo Nawaz Sharif into confidence, paving the way for a meeting between Nawaz Sharif and President Zardari in the near future.
The participants also decided that PPP leadership would receive in-camera briefings on the Prime Minister’s visits to London, the United States, and Saudi Arabia, as well as on agreements concluded during these tours.
It was further agreed that in future, the government would take the PPP into confidence in advance on all major national and policy matters.
The leaders also hinted at holding meetings with other allied parties to ensure broader coalition coordination.
PM chairs meeting
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a key consultative meeting with senior party leaders, including Ayaz Sadiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Ranjha Tanveer Hussain, to review the situation and direct the delegation to address the PPP’s concerns through dialogue and understanding.
Bilawal convenes CEC meeting
Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has convened a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) on October 18 at Bilawal House, Karachi.
The session is expected to deliberate on the ongoing political situation and recent developments in Nawabshah.
Party sources said important decisions regarding PPP’s political strategy are likely to be made in the meeting.
