The United States on Monday signalled that it will introduce its own alternative peace formula if Hamas and Israel fail to reach an agreement to end the Gaza conflict, underscoring Washington’s intent to break the impasse and push for an immediate ceasefire.

White House Press Secretary Carolina Lewitt said President Trump is personally engaged in efforts to secure the release of hostages and ensure lasting peace in Gaza.

She noted that while indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel continue through technical teams in Sharm el-Sheikh, the focus remains on the exchange of hostages and prisoners, followed by steps toward a sustainable ceasefire.

According to the White House, the US peace framework aims to facilitate a phased truce, humanitarian aid access to Gaza, and a structured process for rebuilding trust between the parties.

Domestic crisis

The domestic political crisis in the US also intensified alongside the Gaza conflict. White House Press Secretary said that political tensions in Washington have reached a new peak as the administration struggles to avert a government shutdown.

She noted that the government requires the support of five Democratic lawmakers to pass a stopgap funding bill, but partisan divisions have stalled progress.

Lewitt accused the Democrats of putting “thousands of American jobs at risk,” claiming that their priorities favour undocumented immigrants over US citizens.

The White House urged the public to press their representatives to cooperate and reopen the government, warning that prolonged deadlock could further damage the national economy.

Meanwhile, indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in Egypt continue under Cairo’s mediation, based on the American peace proposal.

The discussions centre on a phased ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and expanded humanitarian access to Gaza, where living conditions remain dire after months of conflict.
