Balochistan Assembly okays review of Mines and Minerals Act, resolution tabled for new district in Kech
The Balochistan Assembly on Monday unanimously approved a resolution to review the provincial Mines and Minerals Act, following objections raised after its passage.
During the session chaired by Panel of Chairmen member Rehmat Saleh, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti told the House that his government has consistently sought consensus since day one, stressing the importance of taking all stakeholders on board.
He acknowledged that while legislation on the Mines and Minerals Act had already been passed, subsequent concerns warranted serious attention.
“We invite the opposition and other parties to sit together. The Act will be brought back to the Assembly in an amended form and passed again with consensus,” Bugti assured.
The chief minister emphasised that his government’s doors remain open for every constructive initiative and reiterated readiness to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the legislative process.
Separately, a resolution was tabled in the Assembly to grant district status to Mand tehsil in Kech.
The joint motion, moved by government lawmaker Meena Baloch, noted that Kech has become the most populous district in Balochistan, stretching geographically from Panjgur to the Iranian border.
The resolution highlighted that Mand, located 150 kilometres from Turbat, faces severe challenges in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and law and order.
It argued that Mand fulfils all the criteria required for district status and urged the government to act swiftly to provide essential services to residents at their doorstep.
Later, the session was adjourned until 3.00pm on October 2.
During the proceedings, Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar presented the draft Prince Fahd Hospital Dalbandin Bill 2025, which was referred to the relevant standing committee for further examination and deliberation.
