Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast in Sindh till Oct 2, Karachi likely to see showers Tuesday
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds in parts of southeastern Sindh from Monday night through October 2, warning residents to brace for possible damage and disruptions.
According to the Met Office, districts including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, and adjoining areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall. In some areas, moderate to heavy showers are also expected.
The PMD has issued an advisory, cautioning that weak structures, mud houses, and electricity poles may be damaged by strong winds, while vehicles and solar panels could also be at risk due to gusts and lightning.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay clear of fragile structures, and follow precautionary guidelines, while local authorities have been advised to take preemptive measures.
For Karachi, the weather office has predicted partly cloudy skies with chances of thunder and light to moderate rain on Tuesday. The city began the day with hot and humid conditions, as sea breezes remained suspended, leading to persisting humidity.
The Met Office further warned that a cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal is moving toward the Arabian Sea. The system, after crossing Indian Gujarat, is expected to influence southeastern Sindh, lower Sindh, Karachi, and adjoining coastal areas in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain hot and dry, while most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also see dry weather. However, partly cloudy conditions are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan.
In Punjab and Balochistan, hot and dry weather will prevail across most regions. Kashmir is expected to remain dry, whereas Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to see partly cloudy skies.
