Imran Khan unhappy with PTI’s Sept 27 rally management
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has expressed serious dissatisfaction over the arrangements for the party’s September 27 rally in Peshawar and conveyed key instructions to the leadership, his lawyer and party secretary general Salman Akram Raja said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Raja said PTI founder was unhappy with the overall management of the rally, which was organised after a gap of 10 months at a reported cost of millions of rupees.
He added that Khan had received complaints about dust, poor facilities, and mismanagement at the venue.
PTI supporters had also criticised the rally’s arrangements and condemned incidents of mismanagement and violence against workers.
According to Raja, the former prime minister stressed that party officials must take full responsibility and improve their performance.
“He made it clear that either the leadership walks with the people, or it will be left behind,” he said.
Khan also raised concerns over the choice of venue and emphasised the importance of avoiding confrontation.
Referring to the incident where shoes were displayed during the rally, Raja quoted Khan as saying that PTI must carry the people along instead of adopting a hostile approach.
Responding to a question about Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, Raja clarified that she does not interfere in party affairs but only conveys messages on behalf of the PTI founder.
“Imran Khan has directed that party leaders themselves must run the party,” he added.
Raja underlined that Khan’s narrative is “pro-state,” as it advocates the supremacy of the Constitution and law.
When asked about tweets described as anti-state, Raja responded: “He has always spoken of constitutional paths.”
On the May 9 cases, Raja said Khan had strongly objected to what he described as “WhatsApp trials,” denying him constitutional rights.
He claimed that during hearings, Khan is unable to directly communicate with his lawyers or confront witnesses.
“In the GHQ attack case, a phone is simply placed before him and proceedings are conducted through it,” he said, terming it a violation of due process.
