A fire broke out in a workshop located in Defence Phase 2, Korangi Road, on Saturday, killing two women and injuring 13 others.
Rescue teams managed to evacuate eight people trapped inside the building.
According to police, the fire erupted in a building near Akhtar Colony.
Thick smoke caused suffocation that led to the deaths of two women, while 13 others sustained injuries. The injured were shifted by Rescue 1122, Chhipa, and Edhi volunteers to Civil Hospital and Jinnah Hospital.
Three victims were admitted to the burns ward of Civil Hospital, while the rest were treated at Jinnah Hospital.
Rescue operations faced difficulties as the building had only one exit. Firefighters broke through window grills to douse the flames.
The fire brigade brought the blaze under control after four hours of efforts.
Chief Fire Officer said DHA fire personnel responded immediately, but due to the intensity of the fire, more vehicles and a KMC snorkel were called in. Eight people trapped inside were rescued safely during the operation.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Karachi commissioner to ensure immediate medical aid for the injured and extend all possible assistance to the affected families. He also ordered an inquiry into the cause of the fire.
