PM orders acceleration of flood relief and rehabilitation efforts
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expedite relief and rehabilitation operations for flood victims, declaring that he will not rest until the displaced people are fully resettled and life returns to normal in the affected areas.
Chairing a review meeting in New York immediately after addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the prime minister emphasised the urgent need to complete damage assessments of crops and infrastructure.
He said early estimates would enable comprehensive planning for the recovery phase.
“Pakistan, as a developing country, continues to face repeated natural disasters triggered by climate change,” Shehbaz said, adding that he had conveyed the voices of Pakistanis suffering from climate-related disasters to the world community at the UN forum.
The prime minister instructed Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal to hold regular review meetings on relief and rehabilitation efforts, and directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman to extend full cooperation to the provinces.
He also ordered a consolidated report on damages within a week to ensure timely decisions and effective recovery planning.
