Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has “won the war” and now wants to “win peace,” as he spoke to journalists in New York on Friday.

The prime minister described his meeting with US President Donald Trump as held in a “pleasant and cordial atmosphere,” adding that he conveyed gratitude on behalf of 240 million Pakistanis for Trump’s role in brokering a ceasefire.

“President Trump’s decision on the ceasefire is vital for lasting peace in South Asia,” PM Shehbaz said, noting that the American leader showed goodwill and a spirit of reconciliation during their talks.
