PTI activist Falak Javed handed over to NCCIA on five-day remand
A local court in Lahore on Thursday handed over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Falak Javed to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on a five-day physical remand.
Falak Javed has been booked on charges of posting anti-state content on social media and using derogatory language against Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.
She was arrested Tuesday night in Islamabad’s Sector F-10 after reportedly remaining in hiding for the past 16 months.
During the hearing, presided over by Judicial Magistrate Mohammed Naeem Wattoo, the prosecution sought a 30-day remand, arguing that Javed had evaded arrest despite 36 raids at her residence and that her mobile phone was needed for forensic analysis.
Her lawyer opposed the request, contending that no private witnesses were available in the case and urged the court to discharge her.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved a five-day physical remand, instead of the month-long custody sought by the prosecution.
According to sources, she was arrested Tuesday night in Islamabad’s Sector F-10 after remaining in hiding for the past 16 months.
Cases have been registered against her under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly running an inflammatory campaign and spreading derogatory material against state institutions.
Falak Javed is the sister of PTI activist Sanam Javed, who has also been linked to several political cases.
It is noteworthy that last year, Azma Bukhari had approached the Lahore High Court, alleging that Falak Javed had uploaded fake indecent videos of her on social media and had engaged in anti-state activities.
In that petition, Bukhari urged the court to place Falak Javed’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) and direct the FIA to investigate and submit a report.
