Over 13 Karachi police officers accused of aiding criminal gangs
A confidential report by the Special Branch has sent shockwaves through the Sindh Police, revealing that 132 officers and personnel of the Karachi Police are allegedly facilitating various criminal networks in the city.
According to sources, the list has been submitted to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, which pointed out 58 Station House Officers (SHOs) and 74 head constables as being facilitators of criminal gangs.
The report claims these officers are not only protecting drug dealers and the gutkha/mawa mafia, but are also collecting extortion from the parking mafia, land grabbers, illegal sand and gravel operations, and roadside tea stall operators.
Several police stations have been directly implicated, with the names of their current or former heads explicitly mentioned in the report.
Further action expected
Although no official statement has been released by the Sindh Police regarding possible disciplinary or legal action, sources say the gravity of the allegations may prompt a major internal investigation.
The matter is likely to raise concerns about institutional accountability and criminal infiltration in law enforcement ranks.
