ECC approves commercial import of used cars
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved several key decisions on Wednesday, including the commercial import of used cars into Pakistan.
According to the Cabinet Division, the ECC has allowed the import of used vehicles up to five years old until June 30, 2026. After that, the age restriction will be removed entirely.
The imported vehicles will, however, be required to meet environmental and safety standards.
The ECC, chaired virtually by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, further decided to impose a 40% regulatory duty on vehicles less than five years old.
This duty will be gradually reduced by 10% each year from 2026 onward, with a complete phase-out expected by the fiscal year 2029-30.
Additionally, the ECC approved a grant of Rs800 million for the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA).
The meeting was attended by ministers of petroleum, energy, food security, and other senior officials.
