Macron stuck in NYC traffic, calls Trump during motorcade delay
During his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly on Monday evening, French President Emmanuel Macron found himself caught in a traffic jam caused by President Trump’s motorcade.
As the streets were closed off, Macron attempted to persuade a police officer to let him cross. He further explained to the officer “I have 10 people with me”.
He also mentioned that his destination was French embassy. However, the officer politely declined, citing the ongoing motorcade.
In a light hearted moment, Macron then called President Trump directly. “How are you? Guess what? I am waiting in the street because everything is frozen for you”, he said, prompting a chuckle.
Macron’s office later confirmed that he used the unexpected wait to have a “very warm and amicable” discussion with Trump about international issues, including the situation in Gaza.
Eventually, Macron was permitted to cross the street, after which he mingled with New Yorkers, even posing for photos, including one where a man affectionately kissed his forehead.
The New York Police Department, which has deployed thousands of officers for the UN General Assembly, expressed gratitude to President Macron for acknowledging their efforts in ensuring safety during the event.
