Murad Ali Shah: Timely measures helped reduce flood damage in Sindh
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday said that timely measures taken by the provincial government had significantly reduced losses during the recent flood situation.
He was addressing a meeting of the provincial cabinet.
The chief minister said barrages and embankments across the province were secured through round-the-clock monitoring, while relief was provided to displaced families.
“Our provincial ministers remained actively engaged in the field,” he noted, adding that minister Jam Khan Shoro personally oversaw Guddu and Sukkur barrages for 16 consecutive days.
Shah said 192,000 people who had been forced to relocate were given relief assistance, while the health department set up 145 medical camps to serve affected communities.
Around 1.6 million livestock were vaccinated as part of precautionary efforts.
Providing an update on water flow, the CM said Kotri Barrage was currently receiving 386,000 cusecs and that levels could rise further.
He stressed that flood-control measures had been completed on time to ensure embankment safety.
Warning about future challenges, Shah said climate change was likely to bring heavier rains next year.
He added that the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and other rescue teams were actively deployed in the field, and that joint efforts had enabled the government to bring the situation under control.
