PTI chairman backs Pakistan-Saudi defence pact
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday voiced support for the recently signed Pakistan-Saudi Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), calling it a welcome step for strengthening bilateral security ties.
The accord, signed last week between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, states that any aggression against either country will be considered an attack on both.
“Pakistan has always stood in the right struggle, and this agreement further consolidates our position,” Gohar said while speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi.
Meeting with PTI founder crucial
He also underlined the need for an immediate meeting with the PTI founder, stressing that dialogue was vital to improve the country’s political situation.
Gohar said he was not allowed to meet the founder today but hoped the meeting would take place tomorrow.
“Meetings are necessary as even the court has ordered them. If not allowed, distances will only increase,” he warned.
The PTI chairman added that the party functioned strictly on the founder’s instructions, not on social media.
“No one can control social media. Our agenda is not anti-state. We are standing for the supremacy of the constitution and democracy,” he said, reiterating that both the country and the army were “ours.”
