Punjab flood report: 127 dead, over 4.7 million people affected as river levels recede
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a detailed flood report highlighting both the scale of devastation and the gradual improvement in river conditions across the province.
According to the report, 127 people lost their lives in flood-related incidents, while more than 4,700 villages were hit, leaving over 4.75 million people affected.
Relief Commissioner Punjab confirmed that 319 relief camps, 407 medical camps, and 356 veterinary camps have been set up in the worst-affected districts.
River flows have now started to recede. At Ganda Singh Wala, the Sutlej River is flowing at 104,000 cusecs, at Sulemanki 81,000 cusecs, the Chenab at Head Marala is at 42,000 cusecs, while Head Trimmu recorded 41,000 cusecs.
The Punjnad River flow was reported at 133,000 cusecs.
The PDMA further reported that Mangla Dam has reached 96% capacity, while Tarbela Dam is now filled to 100%.
Across the border in India, Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej has reached 88%, Pong Dam 99%, and Thein Dam 90% of their capacities.
Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed stated that on the directives of the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a survey to assess damages and compensate victims will begin soon.
“The flood situation in Punjab’s rivers has normalised, with water levels showing a marked decrease in the affected areas,” PDMA official Irfan Ali Kathia noted.
