Renowned economist and former finance secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan passed away after a brief illness, his family confirmed on Saturday.

Dr Waqar Masood not only served as federal secretary for finance but also held the position of minister of state during his distinguished career.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow over his passing, saying that Dr Waqar Masood’s services to the nation will always be remembered.

He also offered prayers for the elevation of the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.

President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed grief over Dr Masood’s death and extended condolences to his family.

In his message, President Zardari stated that Dr Waqar Masood’s contributions to the country will never be forgotten.
