Five judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday approached the Supreme Court, filing individual appeals against the decision that barred Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri from performing judicial duties and challenged other administrative actions taken by Justice Sarfraz Dogar.

The five judges — Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Ejaz Ishaq, and Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz — arrived at the Supreme Court together, where each of them completed biometric verification before submitting separate petitions.

Justice Jahangiri’s petition contests the order restraining him from judicial work, while the other four judges have challenged various steps taken by Justice Sarfraz Dogar in recent days.

Speaking briefly to reporters outside the court, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani explained that rules prevented the judges from filing a joint application.

“Whether our appeals are fixed for hearing or not will be decided by the office. As judges, we have always had faith in law and justice, and we will fight our own case,” he said.

When asked about the public perception of their decision, Justice Kayani declined to elaborate.

“It doesn’t look appropriate to give interviews. Personal opinions are not meant for cameras,” he remarked.

Responding to another question, he clarified that the five judges were not currently sitting on benches constituted within the IHC.

“We are not hearing cases at present, and our colleagues are not sitting with us. We will continue to pursue our matter in the Supreme Court,” he added.

The petitions name the Chief Justice of the IHC as well as the federal government as respondents.

After completing their filings, the five judges left the Supreme Court premises without further comment.
