PTI founder denied family, political meetings at Adiala Jail
A day set for meetings between the PTI founder, his wife Bushra Bibi, and family members at Adiala Jail turned tense on Monday, as authorities permitted access only to senior lawyer Ali Zaman while barring others, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the Imran Khan’s sisters.
Strict security measures were in place as Gandapur, senior party leaders, lawyers, and family members arrived at the jail but were stopped by police at Dahgal check post.
The official meeting list had included six names, among them Gandapur, three sisters of the PTI founder, senior lawyers Qazi Anwar and Barrister Umair Niazi, party leader Azam Swati, spokesperson Niazullah Niazi, and MNA Shahid Khattak. Ultimately, only Ali Zaman was allowed to meet.
Speaking to the media at Dahgal, CM Gandapur said the PTI founder was being kept in isolation and questioned by FIA officials over his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“The account is mine,” the PTI founder reportedly told investigators, adding, “If you have important questions, ask them. Don’t waste time.”
Gandapur warned that denying access to family and party leaders was a violation of the law and court orders.
“Peace cannot be established through operations. Negotiations are necessary, and the people must be taken into confidence,” he said.
He added that the purpose of PTI’s rallies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was to press for the founder’s release, uphold the rule of law, and restore citizens’ rights.
“The judiciary’s orders are being trampled underfoot. Judges must say who is stopping implementation. If needed, we will take out rallies for the judiciary,” Gandapur said, urging political actors to focus on real issues rather than “polluting politics with funeral processions.”
The PTI founder’s family, lawyers, and party leaders left Adiala Jail without a meeting, with Gandapur vowing the party would escalate efforts if court directives continued to be ignored.
