Saudi Arabia’s Traffic Department has impounded 6,893 motorcycles across multiple cities for traffic violations during the week of September 7-13.

According to the reports of Sabq newspaper, Riyadh recorded the highest number of seizures, with 3,598 motorcycles confiscated, followed by Jeddah with 1970.

Other regions reported 540 impoundments in the Eastern Province , 212 in Madinah, 211 in Makkah, 79 in Taif and 45 in Jazan.

Authorities stressed that motorcycles seized for breaching regulations will not be returned under any circumtances. Officials also urged riders to comply with traffic laws warning that violations put both motorcyclists and other road users at risk.

The crackdown comes as Saudi Arabia tightens its traffic laws. Earlier this month, the Council of Ministers approved amendments to article 74 of the Kingdom’s traffic regulations, introducing harsher penalties for violations deemed dangerous to public safety.

Under the new rules, offenders could face up to one year in prison.

Expatriates found guilty of serious traffic offenses may also face deportation, blacklisting and permanent bans from re-entering the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Interior has been granted authority to expel foreign nationals following a final court ruling.
