The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards delivered a landmark night on Sunday, with 15-year-old British actor Owen Cooper etching his name into television history as the youngest male ever to win an Emmy in an acting category.

Netflix’s hit mini-series Adolescence, about a teenage boy accused of murdering a schoolmate, was the big winner at this year’s Emmy Awards - scooping six trophies.

Cooper won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a limited series for his performance in Netflix’s gripping mini-series “Adolescence”, which follows the story of a teenage boy accused of murdering a schoolmate.

According to the BBC, the show proved the night’s biggest winner, scooping six trophies including the coveted Best Limited Series honour.

“Some Hollywood stars wait their entire careers for an Emmy,” said Max Goldbart, International TV Editor at Deadline.

“But Cooper has grabbed one after virtually performing his very first scene.”

Though Cooper’s win marks a historic milestone, he is not the youngest acting recipient overall.

That record still belongs to Roxana Zal, who was 14 when she won an Emmy in 1984 for “Something About Amelia”.

Reflecting on his journey, the English teenager recalled how he only began drama classes a few years ago.

“If you listen and you focus and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything,” Cooper said on stage. “I was nothing three years ago.”
