New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has declared that, if elected, he would order the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu upon his arrival in the city.

Mamdani said that Netanyahu’s arrest in the United States would demonstrate that New York upholds international law.

He had earlier made similar remarks in an interview, insisting that Netanyahu should face arrest if he sets foot in the city.

Mamdani’s rising popularity has caught national attention, with US President Donald Trump acknowledging that it looks like Zohran Mamdani will succeed in becoming New York’s mayor.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump for the first time admitted that Mamdani’s victory in the upcoming election appeared likely.

Both Trump and Netanyahu, however, have previously voiced doubts over Mamdani’s candidacy and potential win.

According to the latest polls, Mamdani currently leads all other contenders with 46 percent of likely voters backing him. The New York mayoral election is scheduled for November 4.
