Dozens of villages submerged in Sindh, crops destroyed
After causing devastation in Punjab, the floods have now hit Sindh, bringing destruction in their wake, authorities said on Saturday.
Due to the rising water levels in the Indus River, dozens of villages in upper Sindh’s katcha areas have been inundated, forcing residents to begin relocating on their own in the absence of official machinery.
In Ghotki, more than 20 villages in the katcha region are now underwater.
In Naushahro Feroze, the water level continued to rise, causing the zamindara embankment to collapse, submerging dozens of villages.
Sesame and sugarcane crops have been completely destroyed in floodwaters, which also forced residents to stay in their homes.
Official machinery absent
A deluge of 350,000 cusecs was currently passing through Naushahro Feroze.
In Kandhkot, nearly 80% of the katcha areas have been submerged. Residents of the affected regions complained about the absence of administration officials to launch rescue operations.
Many residents were forced to pay private boat owners thousands of rupees per person to evacuate from the flooded areas.
High-level flood at Guddu Barrage
A high-level flood is recorded at the Guddu Barrage on Saturday after floodwaters from Punjab entered Sindh.
Due to the flooding, dozens of villages in upper Sindh’s riverine (katcha) areas, including 20 in Ghotki, have been submerged.
In Kandhkot, 80% of the katcha area has been flooded. Several settlements in Obaro and Naushahro Feroze have also been submerged.
A boat carrying flood victims capsized in the Indus River near Kamal Dero. Local residents managed to rescue all five people who were on board.
Amid a rise in the level of the Indus River, 254,000 cusecs of water is flowing towards the sea from the Thatta-Sujawal area.
Meanwhile, in Pano Aqil, floodwater has entered 150 villages in the Sadoja area. Villagers have been waiting for the rescue teams to evacuate trapped people.
According to the Sindh Information Department, the water inflow at the Guddu Barrage has increased to 544,658 cusecs, while the outflow is 514,051 cusecs.
At Sukkur Barrage, the water inflow is recorded at 470,580 cusecs, with an outflow of 422,400 cusecs.
At Kotri Barrage, the inflow is 262,509 cusecs, and the outflow is 254,354 cusecs.
At Panjnad, both the inflow and outflow of water have been recorded at 664,422 cusecs.
