Apple set to roll out a hypertension detection feature on its smartwatches next week after receiving clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Bloomsberg reported.

The company showcased the feature alongside a new blood pressure monitor during its September 9 event, where it also launched a slimmer iPhone Air.

According to Apple, while the tool will not detect all cases of high blood pressure, it could alert around one million users.

Available in 150 countries, the feature will rely on the watch’s optical heart sensor to monitor blood vessel responses to heartbeats over a 30-day period.

It will be supported on the Apple Watch Series 9,10,11 and the premium Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 models, Bloombergs said.

Apple and the FDA have not yet commented publicly on the approval.
