At least 10 people were killed and 41 others injured when a freight train collided with a double-decker passenger bus in central Mexico, local authorities confirmed.

The deadly crash occurred in the town of Atlacomulco, around 100 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.

Security camera footage, aired by local media, captured the harrowing moment the train plowed through the bus as it attempted to cross the tracks.

Notably, no crossing gates were visible at the scene, though other vehicles appeared to have stopped, waiting for the train to pass.

A civil protection official for the State of Mexico,Adrian Hernandez, said that among the injured, four were in critical condition.

Images shared on social media showed several passengers climbing out of the wrecked bus, which had its entire roof and rear section torn off in the impact.

The bus driver was arrested and remains in the custody of the local prosecutor’s office as investigations continue.

The incident has raised serious questions about safety measures at railway crossings in the region.
