Trump hints at imminent Gaza deal for hostage release
US President Donald Trump indicated that a potential deal recarding Gaza could be imminent, aimed at securing the release of all the hostages held by Hamas.
Speaking to reporters after returning to Washington from a brief trip to New York. Trump mentioned he had been discussing the issue during his flight.
“We’re working on a solution that may be very good”, he stated without providing further details. “You’ll be hearing about it pretty soon. We’re trying to get it ended and get the hostages back”.
Earlier that day, Trump issued what he called his “last warning” to Hamas, urging the militant group to accept his terms for an agreement, although he did not specify what those terms were.
On his Truth Social Platform, he wrote “The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning; there will not be another one!”.
In response, Hamas acknowledged receiving ideas from the US through mediators regarding a potential ceasefire and stated it was exploring ways to develop ideas.
The group reiterated its willingness to negotiate the release of all the hostages in exchange for a “clear announcement of an end to the war” and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Trump expressed optimism that all hostages would be returned, although he acknowledged that some may have already died, with the goal being to ensure their remains are returned.
Reports from Israel’s N12 News on Saturday indicated that Trump had proposed a new ceasefire plan, under which Hamas would release all remaining 48 hostages on the first day of the truce in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
An Israeli official stated that the country was “seriously considering” Trump’s proposal but did not provide further details.
