England crushed South Africa with a historic victory in the third one-day international at the Utilita Bowl, Southampton, winning by a record margin of 342 runs — the biggest in men’s ODI history.
Batting first, the English team put a gigantic total of 414 runs for 5 wickets in the 50 overs.
Jacob Bethell struck his maiden century with 110 off 82 balls, while Joe Root added a composed 100, his 19th ODI hundred. Jamie Smith scored 62, and captain Jos Buttler finished unbeaten on 62 from 32 balls to set a formidable total.
In reply, South Africa faltered badly, bowled out for just 72 in 20.5 overs.
Jofra Archer starred with 4 for 18 and was named player of the match. Adil Rashid took 3 wickets and Brydon Carse added 2 as the Proteas endured their heaviest defeat in ODI history.
The win eclipsed India’s previous record 317-run victory margin.
