Raging flood wave enters Sindh, threatens major barrages

Massive inflows recorded at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages

After wreaking havoc in Punjab, a raging flood wave has entered Sindh, posing a threat to the province’s main barrages.

A very high-level flood has been recorded at Head Panjnad, as the water flow at the Panjnad Barrage has increased by 97,706 cusecs, with the current inflow and outflow recorded at 446,820 cusecs.

According to the Sindh Information Department, the inflow and outflow at Trimmu headworks have been recorded at 508,371 cusecs.

At Guddu Barrage, the inflow is 366,151 cusecs, while at Sukkur Barrage, the inflow is 329,990 cusecs. At Kotri Barrage, inflow stands at 245,000 cusecs and outflow at 226,497 cusecs, the department added.

According to reports, the Chenab River is in high flood in Liaquatpur, while floodwaters entered homes and schools in Noorwala following the collapse of the Zamindara embankment, submerging nearby crops.

Sources said that residents have become trapped in their homes due to rising waters, and rescue operations are currently underway.

As per the latest update from the Sindh Information Department, Trimmu Barrage has seen a sharp rise of 112,576 cusecs in the past 12 hours, with inflow and outflow recorded at 488,169 cusecs.

At Panjnad Barrage, the inflow and outflow have been recorded at 345,000 cusecs.
