KP cabinet hikes minimum wage to Rs40,000, clears welfare, development measures
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Saturday approved an increase in the minimum wage from Rs36,000 to Rs40,000 per month and raised the net hydel profit share for dam-affected districts from 10 to 15 per cent.
Chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the 38th cabinet meeting cleared a broad set of welfare, economic, and development initiatives.
The cabinet declared provincial wheat reserves satisfactory and decided that additional procurement would be made in line with future needs.
To support displaced families in Bajaur, a grant of Rs1,247.5 million was approved. The cabinet also sanctioned the purchase of 50 new buses for the BRT system in Peshawar.
In a major infrastructure push, approval was granted for the reconstruction of Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, establishment of new police stations and check posts, and land allocation for a police station in Akbarpura, Nowshera.
The cabinet also decided to upgrade Swabi Sub-Jail to district jail status and allow the transfer of prisoners and posts.
Health initiatives included upgrading the Oghi Hospital in Mansehra to Category D, and a special approval of Rs6 million for a kidney transplant patient from Dera Ismail Khan.
On the development front, the cabinet approved the establishment of Pakistan’s largest safari park in Nowshera, planting forests over 14,718 acres in Tank Band Peero, and handing over the historic Chashma Rest House in D.I. Khan to the Archaeology Department. A KP Arts and Crafts Display Centre will also be set up in Islamabad.
Cultural and social inclusivity was also emphasised with grants approved for festivals of the Kalash and Baháʼí communities.
The cabinet sanctioned amendments to the Health Care Commission Rules, Women Commission Rules, and Stamp Act 1899.
A NADRA office will be established in D.I. Khan, while the province will send a contingent to the National Youth Games 2025 in Islamabad with dedicated funding.
In a humanitarian gesture, Rs100 million worth of ration aid was approved for Afghan earthquake victims.
Briefing the media, Adviser to CM on Information Barrister Saif said the cabinet’s decisions reflect a strong focus on public welfare, security, healthcare, environment, and development.
