The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reported that income tax collection from the salaried class rose to Rs85 billion during the first two months (July and August) of the fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting a 21% increase compared to the same period last year.
In July-August of the previous fiscal year, Rs70 billion was collected under this head, showing an increase of Rs15 billion year-on-year.
According to official data, non-corporate employees contributed Rs41 billion, while corporate employees paid Rs20 billion in income tax.
Provincial government employees accounted for Rs10.5 billion, and federal government employees paid Rs7.6 billion during the period.
The newly imposed tax on large pensioners brought in only Rs180 million in the two months.
Last fiscal year, total income tax collected from the salaried class amounted to Rs565 billion, which was Rs188 billion higher than the preceding year.
Meanwhile, tax collection on plot sales surged by 92% to Rs28 billion, but property purchase-related taxes declined by 12%, falling to Rs13 billion.
On the other hand, FBR fell short of its August revenue target.
Against the assigned goal of Rs951 billion for the month, the authority managed to collect Rs901 billion.
