Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle in the Ahmadi Banda Area of Karak District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the death of Station House Officer (SHO) Umar Nawaz of Banda Police Station along with two constables, on Wednesday.

According to police, the SHO was on patrol near a petrol pump in Ahmadi Banda when armed motorcyclists ambushed his vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire.

SHO Umar Nawaz and two of his guards sustained fatal injuries and embraced martyrdom on the spot.

The attackers fled immediately after the assault.

Following the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi rushed to the scene with heavy contingents of police.

The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched to trace and arrest the culprits, while check posts were set up on all entry and exit routes.
