Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, has turned down the resignations of the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) members from the parliamentary standing committees.

Various SIC members, including Barrister Gohar Khan, had submitted their resignations to the speaker as per the directives of incarcerated leader and PTI founder Imran Khan to distance themselves from the parliamentary processes.

The campaign serves as a protest against the sentencing, de-seating, and disqualification of PTI-backed SIC members, including opposition leaders in the national assembly and senate; Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz.

Both leaders, along with several others, were handed imprisonment of up to 10 years in the cases related to May 9 by different Anti-Terrorism Courts.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, while rejecting the resignations, urged SIC members to continue being part of parliamentary processes.

“We will try that SIC members would take their resignation back,’ he said.
