TV chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he recently underwent treatment to remove skin cancer.

The 58-year-old expressed his gratitude to the “incredible” healthcare workers who successfully treated him for basal cell carcinoma, a type of non-melanoma skin cancer.

In an Instagram post, Ramsay thanked his medical team for their “fast reactive work,” emphasising the importance of sun safety. He urged his followers, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend,” humorously adding, “I promise you it’s not a facelift! I’d need a refund.”

The post included a photo showing the side of his face after treatment, with a plaster beneath his ear. Social media users, including TV judge Robert Rinder, responded with messages of support, while Cancer Research UK thanked Ramsay for raising awareness about the importance of sun safety, advising people to “seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

According to the NHS, basal cell carcinoma is one of the main types of non-melanoma skin cancer, often easily treatable. This form of cancer is primarily caused by ultraviolet light from the sun and sunbeds, usually appearing as a growth or unusual patch on sun-exposed areas of the skin, such as the face, neck, or hands.

The NHS encourages individuals to reduce their risk of skin cancer by being cautious in the sun and regularly applying sunscreen.

Ramsay is widely recognized for his popular TV shows, including Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, as well as his Michelin-starred restaurants.
